Torremolinos

Tourism on the Costa del Sol started in the small and poor fishing village of Torremolinos in the 1950s.

The city has grown a lot and now the population is around 70,000. Torremolinos or the Tower of Windmills (Torre de los Molinos) got its name from the mills and watch tower that once surrounded the town. This tower can still be found in the city, at the end of the Calle San Miguel pedestrian street. Torremolinos is located about halfway between Fuengirola and Malaga.

Torremolinos has fine sandy beaches and a coastline of more than 10 km. The best swimming beaches are: Playa Bajondillo, Carihuela and Montemar.

The city also has a crocodile park, a water park and a botanical garden.

Torremolinos has many different shopping streets, restaurants, beach bars and nightclubs.

There are good opportunities for different acitivities in Torremolinos. There are multiple golf courses, riding stables and hiking trails nearby. You can also play tennis or padel, rent a bicycle or even take a diving course.
